Gray & Co. Designs
The second company in my equestrian small business series is Gray & Co. Designs! I came across Gray & Co. Designs on the My Barn Child Twitter page when MBC was announcing some of their partner retailers for the Royal Winter Fair. Gray & Co. Designs create custom brushes and brush boxes. How perfect would a box and brush set be for a show stable? Logos on everything – you would never lose your brushes ring-side again! I’m thinking about getting a few with the Fashion Reins logo on them – how cute would that be?!
Gray & Co. Designs was founded in 2013 by husband and wife team, Danley & Corinn Gray. Horses and art have been a part of their lives for many years, a passion that was passed on to their daughter, Taylar. Corinn’s love of horses started as a child, “I love horses, and would spend as much time as I could with them. Riding, and grooming. I think I would have lived at the barn, just spending my time grooming those horses, if my mother would have allowed it!” Corinn is now barn manager for Stokely Farms Stables, where the family boards the horses that Taylar shows. She manages the lesson schedule, and organizes farm events. Additionally, she is an active member, and acting treasurer for the Southwest Missouri Hunter Jumper Association.
Taylar was the inspiration behind creating custom brushes, and boxes. Corinn says “When you board your horses, you find that certain things have a tendency to “walk off”. Sure you can Sharpie, or colour code your gear with Duct tape, and put fancy brass plates on your tack, but what about your grooming tools? Equestrians spend a great deal of money on grooming tools. Quality brushes aren’t cheap, but are essential to keeping your horse looking and feeling great!”. The very first set ever created, was a set for Taylar, a simple 4 brush set with her name. And then the next for a friend. And then the next for someone else… “It just kept growing! Then one day we were contracted to paint 700 brushes for the GO Show! That’s when things really took off!” Danley says.
Gray & Co. Designs only uses high quality, handcrafted brushes, and boxes. The brushes are solid wood backed with natural fibre bristles. The boxes are handcrafted, and designed so that grooming tools fit neatly. They don’t skimp on quality, because they believe in creating pieces that will last for years to come. Pieces that can be passed from one generation to the next. When taken care of, their brushes can last for many years. Even after the brushes have lost their functionality, they can still make beautiful pieces for display.
The deadline for orders in time for Christmas has passed, but their website offers gift certificates: the perfect last-minute gift for any rider or trainer on your shopping list! Be sure to check them out on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook as well, they often post adorable picture of their dogs!
